Northeast PA Mountains

State parks located in the PA Mountains region of northeastern Pennsylvania offer fun for the entire family.

Most PA mountains parks are open from late May to Labor Day in September with some open during the winter.

The summer months offer the most to do at the parks.

Get out and enjoy the PA air and sun.

You can go swimming, hike on one of the trails, enjoy a family picnic together, play volleyball or frisbee or go out on the boat.

Parks are a popular summer destination in the state.


Archbald Pothole State Park

In Lackawanna County PA, 9 miles N of Scranton PA. From I 81 - Exit 191A to Business US 6 E towards Carbondale. Entrance is 6 miles on right.

This PA mountains park features a 15,000 year old, 38 foot deep pothole. Open April to November.

Located in the southern Poconos in the PA Mountains, 5 miles E of Lehighton. From NE extension of Pennsylvania Turnpike, take Exit 74 and follow park signs.

Big Pocono State Park

In Monroe County PA on Camelback Mountain. Open spring to December. Park entrance - PA 715 and Exit 299 of I80 at Tannersville.

Enjoy scenic views on the 1+ mile paved road drive which encircles the mountaintop. Use caution on other roads as there are steep grades.

In the PA Mountains in Luzerne County PA 10 miles from Wilkes Barre PA. From Exit 170B I-81, PA 309 N 7.2 miles, right (E) onto Carverton Road, go 4.2 miles. Left (N) on W 8th Street Road for 1.3 miles. Left (W) onto Mt. Olivet Road for one mile.

In Monroe County and Wayne County PA. 1/2 mile S of Gouldsboro on PA 507. PA 507 intersects I380 at Exit 13, 2 miles S of park entrance, and with I84, 13 miles N of entrance.

In the Pocono mountains in Carbon County PA. I-80 - Exit 274 at Hickory Run State Park Exit, E on PA 534 6 miles. NE Extension of Pennsylvania Turnpike - Exit 95. W on PA 940 3 miles, E on PA 534 for 6 miles.

Boulder Field is a National Natural Landmark.

Use caution as this park has an active black bear population.

This park has some nice waterfalls.

Located 30 miles N of Bloomsburg PA in the PA mountains. PA 487 from Red Rock to Lake Jean is very steep. Alternate route - PA 487 S from Dushore.

Glens Natural Area is a National Natural Landmark. Has the Ganoga Falls and 21 more waterfalls.
